Pierhouse
Research by Pierhouse, a provider of marketing management services to major retailers, reveals that around 50%, and in some instances 90%, of Point of Sale (POS) material sent from head office to branches is thrown away, unused, much to the concern of staff.
Grocery retailers alone, therefore, could be wasting around 7,500 tonnes. In addition, as total UK retail annual spend on POS is £1.1bn and compliance rates are often as low as 50%, as much as £550m may be being wasted.
Pierhouse can help businesses become greener by reducing marketing wastage by 80%. It combines years of experience, working with clients such as Waitrose, with a flexible on-demand Media Management Service that can store branch specific information alongside all the elements that make up a marketing campaign (text, pictures and illustrations) in one place. This means inappropriate POS material is not even produced and what is created is accurate and compliant, so campaigns can be executed more effectively and efficiently.

Considering your carbon footprint?
Well consider this……
A large IT datacentre can consume as much power as a town with a population of 40,000 people. This is an incredible statistic but nonetheless emphasises the impact of IT on the environment.
Indeed many commentators have suggested that UK datacentres are facing an energy crisis. And with energy costs set to double over the next five years the bottom line won’t escape the effects.
Poor utilisation of servers – 5 to 15% a suggested average - coupled with the power needed to run and cool the machines results in over half of existing datacentres generating above average temperatures. With the additional burden of space constraint, compromise on performance is often seen as the only way to resolve the issues.
SCC in partnership with Sun Microsystems is able to deploy a number of solutions to overcome these challenges and eliminate the need for compromise. Whether it’s designing an entire technology ecosystem that uses less energy, takes up less space and actually improves on performance or helping you with more immediate problems of halting server sprawl and better managing existing assets we can help.

Barlows is actively encouraging its customers to think about their environmental impact through the use of sustainable materials. To be in a position to promote this it has had to carefully consider its own impact. As a result Barlows seeks to eliminate waste, assist in the reduction and eventual elimination of harmful emissions and look at renewable energies throughout the Life Cycle Assessment process.
Barlows seeks to divert waste from landfill throughout the material life cycle by reusing and recycling, looking at cradle to grave systems and natural depletion. With our award winning background and over 25 years in the packaging industry we are now manufacturing the biodegradable polythene bag. Certificate in Recycling for Sustainability
EU Legislation is increasing and tightening practices across Waste Management. It’s now estimated that business waste makes up 4% of turnover, solely down to poor waste management. This combination is causing waste disposal costs to rise rapidly.
CESMB is offering an industry led training programme designed for businesses wishing to develop a more sustainable waste management strategy. The training is primarily carried out through the workplace. It leads to a nationally recognised certificate in Recycling for Sustainability, worth 60 credits at postgraduate level from Middlesex University.
The programme provides learning materials, briefing sessions, plus one to one email/phone support. It is free for businesses within the London Boroughs, through LDA funding.
